ADHD Assessments

Do you suspect that your child or teen has Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?

Are they always on the go, unable to concentrate, or constantly zoning out?

ADHD assessments are helpful when there are concerns about impulsive behaviour, hyperactive behaviour, or inattentive behaviour beyond what we would expect for a child/teen's age. Often, teachers and coaches bring concerns to parents' attention first. ADHD symptoms get in the way at home, at school, and other places.

A good diagnostic ADHD assessment involves carefully determining whether symptoms are truly due to the presence of ADHD, or due to other factors like a learning disability or anxiety. Symptoms must be present across multiple settings (e.g., not just at home or just at school, but both). Because of this, it is recommended that a comprehensive ADHD assessment includes an updated psychoeducational assessment to ascertain that no learning difficulties are present.

A comprehensive ADHD assessment includes:

  • in-depth interview with parents/caregivers to evaluate ADHD symptoms and overall mental health

  • In-depth questionnaires and interview as needed with a teacher who knows the child/youth well

  • review of report cards / school adaptations

  • self-report questionnaires filled out by the child/teen/youth depending on their age

  • psychoeducational and cognitive testing to examine their learning challenges and strengths, cognitive abilities, memory, language abilities, and reading/writing/math skills*

* If child/teen/youth has had a psychoeducational assessment within the past 2 years, then an updated one is not necessary.

ADHD assessments are available for children and youth aged 6 - 16 years old.

Self-referrals are accepted. While physician's referrals are not required, your insurance provider may require you to have a physician's referral for coverage.
